Volunteer Recognition

The signage on the door of our Coburg office notes ‘This organisation is powered by volunteers’. Without the goodwill and hard work of our volunteers, our organisation would not exist and the people we assist would be without the help they need to get out and about and enjoy life.

In addition to the job satisfaction rewards of the volunteer role, we formally recognise the importance of volunteers in a number of ways.

Volunteer Costs Reimbursement Payment (up to $25.90 per day)

We provide all volunteers with a Volunteer Costs Reimbursement Payment in recognition of the costs of undertaking the volunteer role, most notably the costs of petrol for travelling to and from the LINK office. Depending on circumstances, this Volunteer Costs Reimbursement Payment is up to $25.90 per day. Some volunteers choose to donate this payment back to us, but there is no expectation that this be done. Our volunteers come from all walks of life. Some are relatively well off and living a comfortable retirement. Others are living on low incomes and battling to make ends meet. The Volunteer Costs Reimbursement Payment is designed to ensure that no volunteer need be ‘out-of-pocket’ due to undertaking their volunteer role with us.

Volunteer Honour Boards

The Training room at our Coburg Head office proudly displays a number of Volunteer Honour Boards, recognising the contribution of volunteers over the years. You will be in very good company joining the names of our volunteers past, present and future on our Volunteer Honour Boards.

Annual Volunteer Gifts of the Season

As a small token of our appreciation, all volunteers receive a gift at year’s end as part of our celebration of the season. This usually coincides with our end of year party, one of the regular social events on our Volunteering is fun calendar.

We are always keen to hear from people interested in Becoming a volunteer. For more information about volunteering, contact Jan Hay on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or 9355 8484.

Volunteer Week Breakfast Feast

With leadership from Volunteering Australia, the month of May sees National Volunteer Week celebrated yearly by people and organisations involved in volunteering across all areas of Australia. As one of our contributions to the week, in 2010 we began a tradition where staff cook breakfast every day of the week for our volunteer drivers. Over the years, staff’s cooking skills seem to have improved to the point whereby these breakfasts are a well attended and enjoyable affair, with minimal adverse gastronomic consequences for our volunteers all important health and well being! Even the early morning start, 7am on a cold Melbourne May day seems no deterrant to enjoyment of the occasion by all concerned. Eggs, bacon, mushrrom, sausages, spinach. You name your favourite all time breakfast menu and we’ll cook up a storm for you during Volunteer Week! For more, see the LINK Community Transport Volunteer Week Breakfast Feast Photo Gallery.
