Why Volunteering is fun

In addition to the satisfaction of ‘giving back to the community’ and ‘doing something that is worthwhile’ volunteering is a lovely way to meet people and make some new and lasting friendships with other volunteers. We also like to laugh and have fun!

Throughout the year, the LINK Community Transport Volunteer Team has a number of social and recreational events where volunteers get together with staff and enjoy each other’s company. The type of events vary from traditional sit down restaurant meals to more activity based occasions such as lawn and ten pen bowling. There’s also a few keen golfers planning a LINK golf day.

Unfortunately the idea for a LINK volunteers vs staff soccer match was abandoned due to injury fears! (Although there is a rumour that staff pulled out when they learned how good some of our volunteers are at soccer.)

Note: Attendance at LINK Volunteer Team social events is purely voluntary. As a LINK Volunteer, you’ll be welcome to pick and choose the events you come to according to what suits you.

Our volunteers are a very talented bunch, coming from all walks of life, with so many hidden and not so hidden talents, although we’re not sure this includes their singing. Our Volunteer Coordinator Jan Hay recently had a birthday – 28th we think it was, and a few volunteers decided to join with our CEO for a little rendition of Happy Birthday for Jan.
