Out and About Program

Our Out and About Program (OAP) is a Home and Community Care (HACC) funded community transport service for older people, people with a disability and others eligible for HACC services who experience transport disadvantage, including carers.
 
In line with the overall aims of the HACC program, Out and About aims to provide support for people who are experiencing difficulties in managing daily tasks but who wish to continue living at home. For example, we assist people with transport to do their shopping, meet up with friends and attend social and recreational activities. Our approach reflects a ‘wellness’ and ‘active’ approach that recognises the importance of social and community connectedness in promoting optimal physical and mental health for older people and people with a disability.
 
Out and About is available to residents who live in the following local government areas within the northern area of Melbourne:-
Banyule, Darebin, Hume, Moreland, Nillumbik, Whittlesea and Yarra.
 
Out and About currently operates 10 vehicles (6 mini-buses and 4 cars). These vehicles are driven by a team of 50+ volunteer drivers. A team of 6 paid staff support the volunteer drivers and undertake other required program tasks.
