Transport and Logistics Support Volunteer


DEPARTMENT/TEAM: Operations Team

LOCATION: Principally Thomastown office, offsite work included

REPORTS TO: Manager, Operations

FTE/HOURS: Negotiable: Half or full days, office hours are Monday-Friday 7am-5pm. A minimum 4-month commitment is sought.
Purpose of the Position
Link Community Transport (LINK) is a non-for-profit, charitable organisation, providing transport solutions for people and communities across Victoria since 1979.
LINK makes well over 600 trips per week transporting people experiencing transport disadvantage, offering a safe and reliable door to door service. We create the difference between an elderly or disabled person feeling isolated in their home or living a vibrant social life within their community.
Our Operations Team provides a range of coordinating, monitoring and support functions for drivers on the road. As part of the of the Operations Team, Transport and Logistics Support Volunteers assist with administration of the program and facilitate the cleaning, servicing and repair of vehicles.



Key Responsibilites and Duties


  • Enter time, distance, payment and client information provided by drivers into our computer systems for our records and analysis
  • Investigate data errors and gaps and determine the approximate figures
  • Read vehicle check sheets and record any unsatisfactory items or comments in vehicle log
  • Help purchase operations/office supplies
  • Visit, resupply and help resolve problems at offsite depots
  • Filing, photocopying, record keeping and similar tasks
  • Other tasks as relevant to your interests and capabilities

Vehicle Care

  • Check cleanliness of vehicles when on site and carry out basic cleaning on site (eg wipe console, dashboard or windscreen)
  • Carry out general vehicle condition checks, equipment checks, first aid kit checks and spill kit checks (training provided)
  • Take sedans / wagons to designated service stations for car washes (usually automatic) and vacuum interiors
  • Assist with ferrying of vehicles to and from service, repair and bus wash facilities – this will often involve taking a break until servicing is complete
  • Drive safely and in accordance with all relevant traffic regulations/legislation

Procedures, Health and Safety

  • Attend training and act in accordance with all organizational policies and procedures
  • Follow all relevant operational procedures
  • Observe all relevant Occupational Health and Safety guidelines
  • Maintain a safe, clean and tidy environment
  • Report unsafe equipment or dangerous working practices
  • Collaborate in the development of safe working procedure when required
  • Take reasonable care to protect personal health and safety and the health and safety of others in the team
  • Maintain adequate standards of personal cleanliness whilst working
  • Present for work suitably attired

Organisational Relationships

This position reports to the Manager, Operations. In the Manager’s absence this Volunteer can take instructions from the Volunteer Coordinator and the Scheduling and Administration Officers who are also members of the Operations Team.

Key Position Requirements

Technical Skills

  • Driver’s license, 2 years driving experience and satisfactory driving record
  • Intermediate computer skills including ability to adapt skills to new programs
  • Basic numeracy including confidence estimating, adding and subtracting
  • Sound memory and attention to detail
  • Basic problem solving abilities
  • Basic ability to inspect vehicles and equipment and compare to standards eg identify missing equipment, identify triggers for cleaning
  • Ability to use public car wash facilities safely without supervision

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Commitment to follow all policies, procedures and appropriate instructions at all times
