Volunteer Week 2018 at LINK and Mayor of Darebin

Well we started Volunteer Week this year with a bang!

A morning tea was organised to celebrate the start of Volunteer Week.

We had the Darebin Mayor Kim Le Cerf visit us and chat to our amazing volunteers over morning tea and learn more about LINK and the services we provide.

Darebin Council, Whittlesea and Brimbank Councils, Transurban and The William Anglis Foundation have all supported us in our efforts to recruit more volunteers. We would like to sincerely thank these organisations for helping us with this much needed cause.

LINK has grown significantly and continues to do so. We now provide a more flexible service to a wider catchment area as well as new services such as social outings, assisted shopping and domestic assistance, so there is a huge need for more volunteers.

Without them, LINK would not be able to provide support and enrich the lives of some of the most disadvantaged people in our community. The aging population as well as people of all abilities are at an increased risk of isolation and depression due to lack of mobility.

LINK wishes to thank all its volunteers for their service, kindness and compassion. You are both the soul and wheels of this organisation and we appreciate all the hard work you do. Our customers rave about you and your friendliness and care. Keep up the amazing work!

In my time here, I have seen people’s lives absolutely transformed, volunteers gaining confidence, a sense of belonging, friendships and many of our volunteers gaining skills that have helped them get back to paid employment. Clients making a complete turnaround from being depressed and isolated at home to being fully entrenched in their local communities leading them to healthier and happier lives.

It is a true pleasure to be the conduit of this transformation and I wish to invite anyone considering volunteering to get in touch or just spread the word and hopefully we can reach and help even more people.
